All of us here at SpeedList are wishing all of our fans a Happy 4th of July. For this week’s Face-off Friday, we decided to put two of America’s hottest supercars head-to-head. Here is a face-off battle between the new Chevrolet Corvette Stingray and the new SRT Viper. Who takes the crown? Let’s take a look.
Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z51 (Starting Price: $57,000)
- Engine: 6.2L V8 DI engine
- Performance: 455-hp at 6,000 rpm / 460 lb-ft of torque at 4,600 rpm.
- Transmission: 7-speed manual transmission, 6-speed Paddle Shift automatic transmission
- 0-60mph: 3.8 seconds
- MPG: 17 city / 29 hwy
Z51 Package: larger 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels; dry sump oil system; Electronic Limited Slip Differential; larger front brakes (13.6 inch vs. 12.6 inch) with black calipers; specific shocks, springs and stabilizer bars; differential and transmission cooling; unique Aero Package that reduces lift for high-speed stability; Michelin Pilot Super Sport ZP summer-only tires; available Magnetic Selective Ride Control and Performance Traction Management; HD Cooling; Slotted Brake Rotors; Performance Gear Ratios
SRT Viper (Starting Price: $102,485)
- Engine: 8.4 liter 10-cylinder, 90-degree V-type, liquid-cooled
- Performance: 640-hp at 6,200 rpm / 600 lb-ft of torque at 5,000 rpm
- Transmission: TREMEC six-speed manual
- 0-60mph: 3.4 seconds
- MPG: 12 city / 19 hwy
In retrospect, the extra $45,485 for the SRT Viper will only knock off .4 seconds on your 0 to 60 mph run, which is even more mind-boggling when you look at the difference in the size of the engine. In our opinion, Chevy is doing it right. Our winner here is the new Corvette affixed with the optional Z51 Package. Happy independence day everyone!
