Mercedes-Benz is ready to take on the likes of the Porsche 911 and the Audi R8 with the release of the all-new 2016 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT. The new model brings the AMG brand into a new sports car segment, where we anticipate it will make a lot of noise.

“With the new GT we are positioning Mercedes-AMG even more aggressively than to date as a dynamic sports car brand”, says Tobias Moers, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH. “With its technological substance, the Mercedes-AMG GT fulfils our high aspirations with regard to driving dynamics, agility and sportiness. The new GT is the second sports car developed fully independently by Mercedes-AMG. The car is manufactured according to the motto ‘Handcrafted By Racers’ – which perfectly encapsulates our heritage and our spirit.”

The 2016 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT is powered by a 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8 engine making 456-hp and 443 lb-ft of torque. Coupled with a 7-speed AMG Dual Clutch transmission and a rear-wheel-drive setup, the AMG GT goes from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds. The Mercedes AMG GT S uses the same engine but produces 503-hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. 0 to 60 for the AMG GT S comes in just 3.7 seconds.

Sales of the AMG GT will start with the AMG GT S in the spring of 2015, followed by the AMG GT the following year.
