It has been one luxurious week here on Speedlist, so it’s only right that we finish it off with a plush Face-Off Friday. Today’s battle is between a pair of small sporty luxury coupes, the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class and the BMW 2-Series. How many good things can come in such a small package? Let’s see what these German automakers bring to the table.

Mercedes-Benz CLA250 (Starting Price: $29,900)
Engine: 2.0-liter turbo inline 4-cylinder making 208hp and 258lb-ft of torque
Performance: 7-speed DCT dual-clutch transmission, front wheel or available 4matic all-wheel drive, eco start/stop system, steering-wheel mounted shift paddles, sport-tuned 4-wheel suspension, perforated front brakes with painted calipers

BMW 228i Coupe (Starting Price: $32,100)
Engine: 2.0-liter BMW TwinPower Turbo inline 4-cylinder with 240hp and 255lb-ft of torque
Performance: 8-speed sport automatic transmission with steering wheel mounted paddle shifters, electronically controlled engine cooling, driving dynamics control with multiple drive modes, auto start/stop, brake energy regeneration system, launch control
0-60mph: 5.4 seconds
MPG: 23 city / 36 hwy
Interior: Power front seats with driver seat memory, comfort access, parking assistant, concierge services with critical calling, BMW Assist eCall, rear view camera, active driving assistant, Bluetooth and USB, BMW Apps, Harmon/Kardon Surround Sound system and iDrive 4.2 with touchpad and 8.8-inch display
Exterior: Moonroof, xenon adaptive headlights, 17-inch wheels

Looks like yet another tough call here, as neither model really seems to be lacking in any particular area. The BMW will run you a few thousand more to start, but it also offers enough power to give it a 0-60mph time of over a second faster than the Benz, while apart from that, the CLA certainly holds its own, and offers four doors in a coupe body styling. Both models are also all new to their line-ups, and currently available.
