We’ve discussed the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class and the Audi A3 quite a bit this week. Both models are a game changer for their respective brands as an entry-level luxury sedan with both carrying a starting price tag of $29,900. The team at SpeedList decided to take a deeper look at the two models and put them head-to-head in this week’s Face-off-Friday.
Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class ($29,900):
- Engine: 2.0 liter 4-cylinder turbo
- Performance: 208-hp at 5,500 rpm
- Transmission: 7-speed dual-clutch automatic
- 0-60mph: 6.9 seconds
- MPG: 26 city / 38 hwy
Audi A3: Unlike the Mercedes-Benz CLA250, the Audi A3 is available in two trim-levels including the 1.8 TFSI and the 2.0 TFSI. The 1.8 TFSI starts at $29,900 while the 2.0 TFSI starts at $32,900.
Audi A3 1.8 TFSI:
- Engine: 1.8 liter 4-cylinder turbo
- Performance: 170-hp at 4,500-6,200 rpm
- Transmission: 6-speed dual-clutch S-tronic automatic
- 0-60mph: 7.2 seconds
- MPG: TBA
Audi A3 2.0 TFSI:
- Engine: 2.0 liter 4-cylinder turbo
- Performance: 220-hp at 4,500-6,200 rpm
- Transmission: 6-speed dual-clutch S-tronic automatic
- 0-60mph: 5.8 seconds
- MPG: TBA
As you can see from the specs, the Mercedes-Benz CLA offers just one trim-level, the CLA250, with 208-hp for a starting price of $29,900. On the other hand, the Audi A3 1.8 TFSI is less powerful at 170-hp with a starting price tag of $29,900. If you want to come close to the CLA250 you will have to opt for the $32,900 2.0 TFSI A3. Interesting packaging and pricing but at the end of the day the choice is yours.
