With the debut of the new Jaguar XE sedan, the British automaker is venturing into a new segment where it will compete with the likes of the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and the Audi A4.

Sales in the United States will start in early 2016 with the Jaguar XE which will get a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 engine making 340 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. That engine will be fitted with an 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shift controls allowing 0 to 60 mph to come in 4.9 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph.

Of course we will see some other variants of the model late down the line – possibly including a supercharge V8 model that will go head to head with the BMW M3 and the Mercedes C63 AMG.

“The aluminum-intensive Jaguar XE is the first model developed from the new JLR modular vehicle architecture,” Jaguar said in a statement. “The long wheelbase and low seating position enable perfect proportions and a streamlined, coupe-like profile. The S model’s large front air intakes, chrome side vents, discreet rear spoiler and optional 20-inch forged alloy wheels reinforce its’ performance potential.”

Pricing and availability details will be announced close to launch date but we expect the entry level price to start around $35,000.
